SCOTLAND’S national bard was honoured by the Incorporation of Hammermen at their Burns supper in the Victoria Halls on Friday.

Deacon Cameron Cochrane was in the chair and the Immortal Memory was proposed by ambulanceman and 1996 Langholm Cornet David McVittie.
The toast to The Lassies was proposed by journalist Bob Burgess, with 2006 Hammermen’s Standard Bearer Bruce Hastie replying. Former Burgh Officer Arnold Henderson gave a rendering of Tam O’Shanter and also addressed the haggis, while the vote of thanks came from Euan Hastie.
The haggis was carried in by the incorporation’s 2007 Standard Bearer, Andrew Dickson, escorted by piper Andrew Bunyan. Craft padre Jim Campbell offered grace and the singers for the evening were Drew Richardson, Dixie Scott and Tommy Knox, with Jim Marshall at the piano.
A collection for pipe band funds raised more than £200.
